GL: GREAT LOOP IN SAILBOATS

Bob Austin's recent post may be a bit misleading with regard to a
sailboat's draft. While one can do the Alantic ICW with a draft of
6.5 feet, that is far to much for the Lake Champlain Route, for the
Rideau Waterway and the Trent-Severn Waterway. It will also poise
problem on the Chesapeake Bay outside the channels.

From Bob Austin post on 1/24/08 (SNIP)
I have done the entire Atlantic ICW in a boat with a mast
height of 62.5 feet and a water draft of 6.5 feet. For some rivers
and canals
you have to pull the rig, and get the air draft down to 15.5 feet for
the
lErie Canal or 20 feet for the Welland Canal.
