Yes it can be done, we and 4 other sailboats did last year Aug/06 - Jul/07
from Georgian Bay Ontario and return.  Four of us shipped our masts from
Chicago to Mobile AL which made it easier entering marinas and locks.  Three
of us proceeded to Bahamas from mid Jan to early April and rejoined others
back in Florida for trip back home.  I can send you some of our logs if you
want some more info on where we anchored and what marinas we chose.
