Ralph,

The length of the Cutless bearing is a function of the size of the strut. 
That is the length of the strut housing for the bearing. On my boat it is 7 
inches.NOTE also that the outer diameter of the bearing is also a function 
of the strut. That is a bearing for a 1 3/4 shaft can be either 2 3/8 or 2 
5/8 OD.

This is according to my DURAMAX Water lubricated  rubber sleeve bearing 
chart on my shop wall.
By the way it  mentions" Cutless".

There are dozens of sizes of bearings of several type metals and "plastic" 
that is why I have always carried one as a spare. Even if you are in an out 
the way place and you need the bearing you are not paying demurrage on the 
boat searching for the rt sized bearing.
