GL: Name Not Showing

If I make contact by VHF I don't need to give a whistle signal. Never heard 
  of anyone doing both. 
   
  If he had answered would you have even heard the reply. Maybe if you were 
  approaching each other head on but I doubt the over taken vessels whistle signal 
  would have been heard if you were in an over taking maneuver. That's why I 
  prefer to make contact by VHF.
