Bob,
What size is your boat?  It is my understanding that navigating the Missouri 
is a major problem for a larger boat with a draft of 3-4 ft.  I've been told 
by Fred Myers that if I really wanted to do it I should consider buying a 
pontoon boat and starting from the headwater drift & run downriver.  Then, 
sell the boat after the trip. Evidently the bottom shifts a lot and you have 
to really watch it for a safe journey.

Hopefully, some people a lot more knowledgeable than me, will be able to 
chime in here with more specific cruising info.
