Not at all uncommon on the Great Loop. In spite of a 40 gal holding
tank for two of us using shoreside facilities and every working
pumpout as often as possible, we experienced a completely full
holding tank. We were on the Ottawa River (no outlet to the 3-mile
limit, just a NO DISCHARGE area).

Well, it was good enough for Joshua Slocum, so it was good enough for
us. The "old oak bucket" (ours was plastic) and a few empty gallon
oil bottles with funnel saved the day. When we did find a working
pumpout, and fittings our metric deck pipe could use, we pumped well
over 40 gallons.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Keep all your options open.
