For Vaughn Mitchell's question , "what's the largest Loop boat'

There have been countless discussions on this topic. The short answer
is, observe the Chicago 19' height and you can do the loop in a really
big boat. But, with each increase in size you start to lose options,
not gain. Over 45', forget the small boat channel in Georgian Bay,
perhaps the most dramatic scenery on the trip. Over 15' height,
forget the western half of the Erie Canal. Over about 4 1/2 -5 foot
draft, forget some of the NY and Canadian canals, and use the St.
Lawrence instead. The larger boats have less options docking due to
size and power requirements.
My advice, stay at 45' or smaller two cabin boat, max 4' draft. You
will have plenty of room for a crew couple and you will be able to go
almost anywhere you want. and get the most from your trip.
