A few years ago a 74' Hatteras was fitted to do the Loop. The couple who
owned the boat had superstructures hinged so that they could be taken down
when necessary. I think the boat was operated by a couple but they
frequently had guests aboard.
Last spring, I followed a large motor yacht,(I think it was a Marlow
Explorer of at least 60') through the Cal Sag canal and under the 19'
bridge.
With some modifications even large boats can get under the bridge.
I have also seen boats go aground in the ICW in NC.
If you can stand the close quarters with crew, you can probably manage with
a boat as small as 35 feet but you will probably be happier with something
larger. But larger than 50' may limit your access to some ports.
