If a California resident buys a boat out of california FOR USE OUTSIDE OF CALIFORNIA FOR MORE THAN A YEAR he/she can totally avoid California sales tax ( legal advise is suggested). Also many states do not charge sales tax on boats sold to non-residents and purchased for use out of the state of purchase (there is a time limit for removing boat from state of purchase). Hopefully you can legally avoid all sales tax. Good luck, Jon.

This might be a non-issue...
If its a larger boat you'll probably want to Document
it with the USCG.
And then CA doesn't require Registration. In fact, the
CA DMV will not deal with a Documented vessel.
