As new members of your club, we would like to pass on a bit of information for
any members heading down the Mississippi this fall.  We recently purchased a
boat in the Nashville area and came north to Chicago and on into the Great
Lakes.  It would be wise to avoid "Alton Marina".  It is apparently under new
management, and the knowledge of staff and service offered is non existent.
We called them on the radio, advised we drew 3.9 ft. and required fuel and
overnight dockage.  They responded that they had 6 ft. of water and instructed
us to proceed to the fuel dock.

The marina at that point had 2 ft. of water, and we experienced considerable
damage to our intake lines, etc.  They accepted no responsibility and in fact
acted in a very unprofessional manner.  We spent the next 3 hours anchored in
the Mississippi attempting to get one engine running, and then proceeded to
Port Charles marina for service.  The service received in Port Charles was
superior.  Don't take any chances avoid "Alton".
