Rob and List,

Sorry to disagree with you, but the Charts of the Great Lakes use  
STATUTE Miles (not Nautical Miles) for distances and Feet (not  
Fathoms) for depths.  I would hope than anyone actually doing the  
America's Great Loop Cruise would be knowledgeable enough to know the  
difference between Nautical miles (6080 feet) versus Statute miles  
(52870 feet) distances.

A simple rule to remember is that if the waters are Fresh water  
(clean, pure and drinkable) they are Statute (statute miles), if they  
are Salty, have sea nettles, are murky or non drinkable they are  
probably in Knots (nautical miles).
