Also keep in mind that in Michigan and other areas, your boat may not  
extend out beyond the length of the slip (or well as they are also  
called), so that your "TOTAL" length is counted -- swim platform, bow  
pulpit, sailboat mast, etc.  We soon learned that our 36 ft. Carver  
Mariner is actually 41 feet, 7 and 1/2 inches in length overall.
