Georgs asked some questions about the new Skipper Bob Award for Making it
Better. I then realized that many of you were not at the rendezvous last
week so I am sending this to all.
The Levines are Robert and Ann (MV Sandpiper) who bought (with another
couple) Skipper Bob's set of alpha numeric signal flags that I auctioned off
(money went to American Heart association.) at the Oct AGLCA rendezvous. The
other couple took 7 flags and sent the rest back to Bob and Ann to do with
what they will. Ann and Bob wanted to start an award in Skipper Bob's
memory using the flags for the trophy (one at a time). They looked to me to
help name the award and it's purpose. I came up with the "Making it Better"
award because Bob always made every thing better for others and on his grave
marker I had inscribed "HE MADE IT ALL BETTER". So the award will be given
to someone who stands out in the boating world as someone who has taken the
time to make things better for their fellow boaters/cruisers in a big way.
The very first award went to the Stobs last week because they stand out in
the 'making it better' category. (The attachment will tell you more) Bob,
Ann and I selected the Stobs. The future winners will most likely be chosen
from AGLCA membership and nominees from the members will be encouraged.
There will be an award at each AGLCA rendezvous. We have not looked at going
outside of the AGLCA for this award at this time but things do change. The
fact that the award was established was so very well received. I was
overwhelmed by the many people who have e-mailed me and also came up to me
at the presentation and said they were so pleased that someone started a
Skipper Bob Award. So am I. Thanks Bob and Ann Levine.
I hope this answers your questions.
