Once you get north of Burlington it is not the miles but the locks and
locking time you need to consider.
Our route last year was;
Albany Yacht Club to Mechanicville...nice public dock with water and 30
amp service. Lock 3 will lower water if you need to clear 15.5 bridge. Call
ahead. Only about 10 miles, but we stopped at Van Schaick Marina to get radar
removed
Mechanicville to Schuylerville...Schuyler marina. Local marina with
limited facilities...nice couple..15 miles
    Schuylerville to Whitehall marina...7 locks...narrow channel..34
miles...nearly 6 hours. Good stop for a couple of days. Restaurant across the bridge
is very good.
Whitehall to Westport Marina...docks are not that good for a big
boat...Carroll family...full service marina...nice restaurant with entertainment.
Docked on wall in front of restaurant on the wall due to a storm.
Westport to Burlington...not a long run, but we toured Willisboro and
Shelborne Bays..stayed at Burlington Community Boat House, right
downtown...spent 4 days here with Enterprise rent-a-car. Diesel was fresh at marina with
cruise boats.
Westport to Plattsburgh...did some touring of Valcour Island but
probably is less than 20 miles. Had to check in at fuel dock and docked on wall in
front of restaurant. Plattsburgh does not have much to offer since the
military base closed
Plattsburgh to St Jean,Quebec...French is the language, even at the
marina, St Jean Marina. Customs wharf to port. 47 miles. Be sure to make
reservations. Nice town and real busy on weekends.
St. Jean to Chambley...11 miles, 9 locks and 12 swing bridges. Very
narrow and shallow. Can't turn around and one way traffic, so may have to wait. 3
hours. Lock 9 controls the system. Need to pay lock fees after you enter the
lock. Chambley marina is very good and the town is worth a stay.
Chambley to Sorel...43 miles, 1 lock and 4 hours. Sorel is an inland
port, and does not offer much. Sorel de Marina is east on St. Lawrence and well
protected. Docks are unstable so be careful. Restaurant is okey.
Sorel to Montreal...52 miles. Fuel at Port de Pleasiance on port side.
No fuel in Montreal. Stay downtown marina, not the yacht club
