Rich, we had a 8 ft. Livingston on our boat for years.  It had about 
a 4 ft beam, as I recall.  I would snap the dinghy in place at the 
swim platform and, holding the top of the transom for leverage, just 
reach over to the far gunwhale and pull upward.  The dinghy was light 
enough to do that if the motor wasn't attached.

I could also do it with the motor mounted by tying a line through the 
far oarlock hole and pulling up from the aft deck.

The winch could make the whole job easier -- particularly with a big 
motor, but you could save the money and buy a little fuel 
instead(Dang!  I mentioned that "F" word again!). ;)
