Fairport is a great place to stop for a few nights. The wall is free and as I recall power and water is available. You are right in town with access to restaurants and shops. Fairport is a picturesque town with all the services you will need.
We left our boat there for about a week in 2002 during high water in May when sections of the canal were closed. Although we did not have any concerns in leaving it there, before we left it, we informed the gentleman who acts as dockmaster, and the bridge tenders agreed to keep an eye on it.
