This spring my wife and I cruised from New Orleans to Ft. Myers / Sanibel
and back in our Camano. We followed the coast line and found many interesting
stops and anchorages along the way. There are beautiful bayous and white sand
barrier islands with places to anchor or nice marinas to stay at along the
Northern Gulf Coast. Along the "Rim Route" we enjoyed stopping at
Apalachicloa, Cedar Key, Crystal River, and Tarpon Springs. They are laid back small
towns, as they say part of the "old Florida". Going into these places requires
quite a long trip through shallow water, especially in low winter tides, and
crab trap bouys but the channels are well charted and marked.
If you think you would like to see it don't wait, it is changing fast!
