GL: Talking to tows

Henry and All,

This varies from one place to the next apparently ... in
Port of New York and Hudson River, they are called Tugs, or "Tug and Tow".
That's what they call each other.

Those things towing barges are not called
towboats in our area. The tow is the actual barge.

Ralph,
I think that a tug is a boat that moves
large ships around in harbors etc.
A tow is a towboat that pushes or tows
barges.
A barge is what is moved by a tow(boat).
Towboats don't like to be
called a tug which they are not.
Henry

The barges do not have VHF radios on them.
