GL: Stinky Bilge

Hi All,
We constantly fight stinky bilges. The first front is of course cleanliness
but in this heat - we're on the Ohio just below Cincinnati, nasty old river,
92 deg at the dock - any water, and it seems there's always some, goes sour
in no time. The A/C intake for the cabin unit - mounted under the dinette
adjacent to the galley-down - just loves to suck it up and distribute it to
the main salon without affecting its fragrance.
I've started treating the bilge water with a couple of capfuls of Clorox but
worry about the effect on metal clamps, fittings etc. as well as some
plastics used in hoses. I am not sure of the Clorox's affect on the glass
lay-up of the bilge structure itself.
Any ideas on sanitizing bilges whilst not eating up any important bits?
And, any other cautions on using Clorox??
Best,
Rob Dorsey
