GL: Prescription drugs

The admiral and I are beginning the planning for cruising the loop in
the spring of 08 and have some concerns about filling drug
prescriptions en-route. Our plan has 3 month by mail as an option but
we do business at national chain that is quite good about filling
existing prescriptions in other states. For some of these
prescriptions one does not want to interrupt even for a day. One is a
'controlled substance' which in most states has not a problem except
in NY (required a NY Doctor's prescription).
Is mail forwarding reliable enough to ensure delivery?
Is it better to plan a stop at the local Rite-Aide?
Is there a Doctor to Doctor prescription system?
Any thoughts or experiences would be welcome.
