We just returned from another gathering at Apalachicola--it is a great
town--and destination. There is a brand new hotel on Water Street--and it is
very nice--but full for the Sea Food Festival (we were there last year--and
the festival was a lot of fun, but very crowded.
There is an alternative anchorage, which I think is much better than in the
river or one of the sloughs--that is up Scipio Creek, at the commercial basin,
there is a fairly good sized protected area, with 6 foot depths and mud
bottom. We left our dinghy at the launch ramp and it appeared safe. There is
a Park Service building up there and a parking lot, as well as the launching
ramp. (I must say that we found gasoline about a dollar more expensive, than
Rich found Diesel yesterday).
There were not as many boats headed South this year as last--but that is a
general observation--and may not be valid...
