GL: man overboard

Just one caution. I have a tether with Gibb connectors on both ends. They
have and identical red section. Mine do not release by pulling on the red
shroud. These are old, but you may encounter them. In fact, my gates have a
two-step release.
Obviously, the Wichard are better, but I don't like the "quick release snap
shackle" on the other end.

| If you have the right tether, there is no need to carry a knife to cut
free
| (assuming you don't drop the knife just when you need it most!).
|
| Take a look at http://tinyurl.com/2jzvrw Two other models can be seen at

|
| These tethers are made just to solve the problem you are talking about.
With
| the snap hoop attached to your safety harness, if you really need to cut
| free, you just grab and pull the red release.
|
| I've used that type of tether for many years now whenever I go offshore -
| thankfully, without ever needing to use the release for real.
