GL: Buying from a trusted vendor

Agreed, last time I tried a price match there was too much resistance.

I may be drifting form the original thread but my experience with West is I
was formerly a devoted customer at West both on line and at their retail
outlets, but in recent years and most notably on the loop I find the Stores
are for the large part (for my boat anyway) poorly inventoried, very over
priced and even some quality brands have been replaced by West labeled
inferior knock offs, much to the delight of the re emerging independent
marine retailers I might add. I, like many of you have become savvier with
internet buying and other trusted and more competitive sources of marine
items so with my frustration with West's lack of inventory I do not walk
through their doors often. PW's little marine store here in my home Bermuda
carries more quality items than most West stores I have been in these days.
By and large Wests managers and staff are great and do what they can for the
shopper but from what I am hearing are hog tied by the bean counters who now
run the show (their words), pity they had it all just a few years ago. In
their defense I may no longer fit their profile as a shopper who knows? They
are every where so they still hold some appeal.

That policy is DEAD. I have dealt with all the merchants that I surveyed and

all have my trust.

West's post-sale policies are noteworthy, but I find them overpriced on
everything recently. Ironically, they even overprice West branded rope! They

will price match a local storefront and that's it. Someone will pop up and
say that his local store manager still matches "for him." In reality, I
believe that the manager is giving him West's to the trade pricing - which
often is higher than online.

| Hello All,
| Under the subject of EPIRB's and rescue, someone mentioned checking
| prices on the Internet, but then mentioned using a trusted vendor.
| As of about a year ago, West Marine would match the price + shipping
| from Internet vendors. Just print out the info and take it to your
| local store, they match the price. I don't have a catalog handy, but
| it is published in the back of their catalog, I believe under their
| policies.
| Thanks to a friend for pointing this out. Now you can get the best
| price and from a "trusted" vendor.
