Elliott, I understand that you are cruising clockwise from Lake Michigan to
North Channel and Trent Severn to Kingston, Ontario. In this case, after
you leave DeTour Harbor Marina or Drummond Island you should head directly to
Meldrum Bay and check in by phone with Canadian Customs.

Next, you plan to do St. Lawrence, Ottawa R. and the Rideau Canal
loop back to Kingston. It is not necessary to check in at Kingston either
leaving or returning since you are already checked into Canada, but you must
check back into USA at Ogdensburg which is a US Port of Entry on the St.
Lawrence River and then again call Canada when the St. Lawrence River re-enters
Canada.

Now if this sounds complicated you can simplify by doing the
Rideau first, then Ottawa and St. Lawrence Rivers. You check in with US
Immigration when you reach the St. Lawrence and that's it! You will have to stay on
the US side, i.e. Alexandria Bay, Clayton, Boldt Castle. If you venture to
the Canadian side, i.e. Brockville, or Gananoque then it will be necessary to
call Canada.
