GL: Senility (was Fuel Consumption)

I've said this before....the lower Mississippi was, we think, the greatest leg
of the entire loop, not as scenic perhaps as the North Channel but the
wildlife was truly awesome! It is three miles wide many places and the
rushing current was going the same direction. When we were tired, we would
just pull out of the channel, drop anchor and open a bottle of wine. Never
once did we have an anchor drag, but we did manage to get one hooked on
something....sure was happy to have that ol' hacksaw. We came straight into
N.O., stopping at a commercial fuel dock to replenish. They said they had
been following our adventure, including our "run in" with the Mississippi
Queen (that's another story!) and although they didn't sell to pleasure boats,
they were honored to have us at their dock.

Phil said: It is a long stretch of river with few resupply points and few
places to spend the night. Then you get to the Big Easy and have to navigate
all those tight channels and commercial traffic, most loopers just bypass it
for Mobile and wind up that much closer to Florida.
