Reverse osmosis water makers will work quite well in fresh water. However one
has to be cautious to not increase the pump pressure beyond what is safe for
the membrane in those circumstances. You may find that 300 PSI is adequate
for RO water making--and the usual 900 PSI will blow out your membrane.
Much of the "distilled" and "pure" water you buy at the store is made by
Reverse osmosis.
There is a more effecive way to steralize fresh water--and that is to use an
Ultra violet lamp flow thru with fine filtration to steralize, remove bacteria
and parasites.
