GL: Water heater relief valve

I don't know if these are different for RVs and boats,
but I always store my RV with the pop-off open to
ensure that the water heater is totally drained.

A small bit of debris can get lodged in the sealing
point and cause the actual relief pressure to drop.

No guarantee that the manual manipulation
of the relief lever will cure the problem but
it is certainly worth trying.

The relief valve shouldn't leak, period. Try opening it and letting it snap
back into position a few times. That may clear it's seat and fix the
problem. If not, replace it.

Hi,

Sorry but I must offer a differing opinion: the relief valve should open if
it senses high pressure and/or it has become weak or failed.

I believe it is best to try to determine the exact cause rather than just
replacing the relief valve. If indeed, the valve opened due to high
pressure,
the replacement will also open; that's what its designed to do.
