Hi Folks,
We just made almost that same trip. We left Egmont Key outside Tampa,
and took the intercostal to Pine island (St. James City). Then we left out
of San Carlos Bay and pretty much followed the "3 mile line" to a point
south of Marco Island. (25 47.906N, 81 42.972W). from here a straight line
to 25 46.534N, 81 39.567W. This is where a shallow spot is. There is 13ft of
water between the two shallows. Check your chart at this position. From here
its almost a straight line to West Pass (25 50.376N, 081 29.241W) where we
put the hook down for several days. Very nice, quiet, well protected and
good holding. Just a bit further south is Indian Key Pass. You could dingy
in to Everglades City if you wanted to.
We left West Pass and made a straight run to Marathon.
We Draft 4.5 feet and had plenty of water!
Good Luck!
