GL: GIWW buoys

Hi, Roy and Elvie:

Sad to say, I Googled the Dial-a-Buoy site and got this response:

"The NDBC Dial-A-Buoy system failed completely on 26 June 2006 due to
a hardware failure. A contract for a replacement for Dial-A-Buoy is
being established in coordination with the National Ocean Service
(NOS) Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS)."

I know you can check the buoys via internet, but not much good when
you are in the middle of the Gulf...

FWIW, the number was: (228) 688-1948. Dialing it gets a "...not in
service" response.

Maybe someone on the list has better information -- or at least more
encouraging!

All the best!
