My experience has been good.  I call them, request a service address change, 
give them the new address (probably a local marina), they sometimes ask for 
the county.  I also give them my cell phone # and tell them that I do not 
have a land line.  I keep them on the phone until I see the local channels 
on my set.

As to weekly calls I don't know if this is a problem but I would think not. 
However, we go so slow (3 yrs on the Loop from Texas and we are just leaving 
the Tennessee for Lake Michigan.  BTW, we are "Backward Loopers".
If we are traveling and I don't have a signal I don't call to get signals 
for a night or 2.  I usually wait until we are going to be cruising in a 200 
+- mile area.
