GL: Lay over in Albany or Troy

I would try the Albany Yacht Club.   Its about 5 miles before Troy Lock and 
the Erie Canal.   We stayed here.  The members were very friendly and helpful, 
plus you do not have to be a member of a reciprocal Yacht Club to stay here -- 
they take all-comers.
