In Ottawa for a 3 day stay
The locking up - 8 locks- at the start of the Rideau was a bear. Strong NW
winds made every move to the next lock a white knuckle situation.
Lockmasters will tell you not to tie to the lock wall in town because of
vandalism. We did anyway and found a boater who had his boat untied
overnight. Weekends the worst as the kids come in to town. A simple lock
and chain will solve that problem. Ottawas is a great stop with lots to do.
The tourist sites are well documented but By Ward market is my favorite.
Shopping the old fashioned way in small specialty stores and street stalls.
Hit the Rib and Chicken BBQ festival on Sparks street for some Carolin style
ribs. There are 6 or more prize winning outfits to choose from. They give
prizes and each one claims to have the most awards. The wood and BBQ smells
drift down to the moorings all day.
For Canada Day expect LOTS of crowds and no space along the wall. Arrive
Thursday latest for any space. We will be in Smith Falls for Cday.
No WiFi at the docks but walk up to the Sparks St walking street and there
are several free sites to connect to.
