Which is landward and which is riverside?

There is a dam across the river over which the river flows.

The lock is on one side of the dam close to the bank.

Modern Locks have two chambers side by side so that two tows can lock through
simultaneously.

The lock closest to the bank is the landward lock.

The lock closest to the dam and thus the river is the riverside lock.
