This afternoon I arrived at Waterford at the intersection of the Erie Canal
and Champlain Canal. My "trip of a lifetime" is underway. No, I'm not
looping, but I'm planning on staying on the Erie all summer. My crew back at
my business is very happy to have me away so they can play, and we'll soon see
how well they do.

It's nice to be back at Waterford again, where I have
friends. And Greg and Susan Han of Allegria are rafted right next door...
always real nice to meet folks from this list!

I plan to spend the summer
visiting and photographing sites of previous versions of the Erie Canal.
Local canal historian Howard Ohlhous picked me up this afternoon and ran me
around, in the rain, and showed me some 18 sites in Cohoes (adjacent town) and
Albany, so I could plan my local visits.

It'll be an interesting summer!
Best wishes to all,

Fred W.
