GL: new jersey

We went through the entire NJ ICW last week (May 25-30). The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the scenery. However, it was very slow going. We have 4 foot draft and went aground early in the Great Sound. Stick close to the red markers in that area. There are very many shallow areas where we had less than half foot below our boat. Make sure you travel with the high tide, go slowly in the shallow areas and watch for temporary markers. The Memorial weekend crowd was almost unbearable. The locals would fly by very close in their cruisers WOT with no regard to the wake they left us. It was that wake though that we used to help us get free from the mud.
If you do decide to travel that route, the Canyon Club Marina at Cape May was first class (and was priced accordingly). Our favorite waterway was Forked River off of Barnegat Bay. Be prepared for turbulence in Point Pleasant Canal. We actually were grateful to get out into the ocean. It was very calm the day we crossed from Manasquan to New York City.
We are currently up the Hudson River in Roundout Creek.
