GL: NDZ - No Dischard Zones

Looks like I should have confined my comments on sewage discharge to
Ludington. In that post I had said that sewage discharge (treated or
untreated) is illegal in all fresh water parts of the Loop. That's still
generally correct for untreated sewage, and for treated sewage, confined
waters (like lakes) that have no interstate access. Interstate waterways
are generally controlled by the EPA which allows discharge of treated sewage
in many waterways. This web site
http://www.epa.gov/owow/oceans/regulatory/vessel_sewage/vsdnozone.html
lists the No Discharge Zones, but boaters are advised to consult local
states web pages as well for specific local details.
This topic is far too detailed to covered by a general statement.
Furthermore, I looked at several state web sites and found that the
information on those sites can be unclear. There's a lot of myths out
there.
Thanks to Bob Austin for sharing some of this information with me.
