For those concerned with gray water discharge in Ludington, MI:
There is, everywhere, as Tommy pointed out, an absolute restriction that
prohibits using detergent tp disperse an oil spill. You can get in big
trouble of caught.
However, there is no prohibition against discharge of gray water (shower,
galley, etc,) in Ludington or anywhere else in Michigan, or in fact anywhere
else that I know of on the Loop except Lake Champlaign and it's connecting
waterways. I contacted Jim Gallie, the manager of the Ludington Municipal
Marina yesterday who confirmed that there is no such regulation or
restriction in Ludington. In fact, he said that there is pending in the
Michigan legislature a bill that would prohibit such restrictions. In
short, visit Ludington on the Loop trip without worrying about taking a
shower or washing your dishes. It's a great stop.
Of course, it is still illegal to discharge any blackwater (treated or
untreated) throughout the fresh water parts of the Loop. Many of those
waterways are the source of drinking water for the adjoining cities and
towns.
