GL: (Neglected) Michigan Islands

I'm sure that when we passed through Drummond Island toward the straits we
were on a mission - just like most folks I expect. The call of cell phone
coverage you could affort, Internet, and civilization just pulled us to the
Mackinac Island area. We stayed at St. Ignace for a few days.

We didn't even see a great place to anchor or stop about mid-way between
Drummond and Mackniac - the Les Cheneaux Islands (Richardson's Lake Huron
chartbook pages 40-43).

Skipper Bob's books don't mention it, The North Channel Ports coverage
doesn't get that far, and the Great Lakes Waterway Guide only has a red dot
at Hessel but no description. (The Great Lakes Cruising Club CD does but
then they probably have everything...)

We are back up to do is this part of the world again this year. So far we
have spent two nights at anchor in Government Bay and will spend tonight in
Wilderness Bay. My Verizion cell works for voice and data (the same can't be
said for St. Ignace - I had to but a day's WiFi there last week). Max speeds
160 kbps Govermnment Bay, 115 at Wilderness Bay.

We'll dingy to Hessel and check it out today sometime.

Lovely spots. Last chance to do much anchoring before heading down the
Michigan coast.

Otherwise,
diesel at St. Ignace two days ago still 3.10
Petoskey was 3.10 when we got there a week ago and 3.20 two days later.

Safe journey...
