GL: Ethanol followup

I recall that 30 years ago, when ethanol was first introduced as a substitute
for lead additives, there were lots of problems with clogged fuel
filters on cars that had been running on pure gasoline for years. They had
accumulated a significant varnish build up in the fuel system. The ethanol in
gasohol
was a very effecient fuel system cleaner and all that crud got carried
to the fuel filters. Once the fuel filters were replaced those problems
disappeared.

Much of the gunk that you see in transparent fuel line sections and filters
may simply be varnish which is being flushed from the old fuel tanks and lines.
