GL: exitting US, customs and immigration

Help,
    We (wife and I) are now in Oswego NY and ready to  cross to Kingston, 
Ontario, Canada. We are in a 26 ft sailboat, both of us are  US citizens and have 
passports on board. How do I proceed? We are going to  Kingston up the 
Trent-Severn Canal. Do we check out from US Customs and  Immigration and if so, how? 
I know we check in with Canada Customs and  Immigration when we get to 
Canada, but leaving the US has got me puzzled. I know  we don't have to purchase the 
US Customs Decal.
