Colonel;s Lady is lying calmly in Confederation Basin in Kingston, Ontario,
Canada, having made the passage across the lake with no problems in seven
hours at 7.5 knots. Our triplog reflected 47 statute miles, but the charts all
show 55 miles across. Go figure! We found out that the lake settles down
about three hours after the sun rises and we made the mistake of starting with
the sun rising and paid dearly for it for three hours of short chop. Locals
know of this idiosyncrasy of the lake and will talk about it if asked.

We did change our Verizon cell phone to the new plan which included Canada.
They do not have a comparable plan for Verizon Broadband. Warning, if you
use your broadband while in Canadian waters, there will be a .02 cents per
kilobyte surcharge for both uplink and download of data. We applied that rate
to our last months Verizon bill and realized that we would have had to pay an
additional $ 58 for uplink data and $ 756 for downloaded data. We called
Verizon and suspended our Broadband without billing for six months, or until
we re activate it. To replace it I selected the WiFi service at many of the
marinas and locks on our route across Canada. I selected the daily rate and
will activate it two or three times a week as needed for e-mail, weather, and
net searching at $ 10 a day. Details can be obtained at
_www.iwavecanada.com_ (http://www.iwavecanada.com) . I have found out that this WiFi is about
ten times faster than the Broadband I had become used to. Wow!!

Heading further west to the Trent-Severn Canal and locations beyond. Not
too bad for a sexagenarion and a septuagenarion is it?? Can it get any better?
