Hi, Gary, Glenn, and all.

You also might check out one of the sealed
motorcycle batteries for big Harley-Davidson
motorcycles. Those made by Odyssey or Optima
and sold at stores such as Batteries Plus are
much more heavy-duty and capable than
those such as Gary is using. Of course, you
would lose the ease of portability and have to
purchase a suitable charger.

I am not that close to making the loop yet but
a chap across the way here in the marina has
that setup with a small Walker Bay boat for just
putzing around the cove. As I type, he has
just now crossed my bow, taking his dog for
a ride!

Glenn, we also use an electric trolling motor on our dinghy, and as
you, we find it to be very functional. Not sure what you are using for a
battery, but what I have been using with success is one of those
rechargeable
emergency battery car starter packs that you see advertised. It weighs about
10 pounds and because it is a sealed battery, I don't have to worry with
battery acid. It also has its own built in charger, so I can recharge easily
off any 110 receptacle. The one I have gives about an hour of running
time.
It might not work in for you, but for me was easier than lugging
around a normal battery and I only need about an hour of use before I would
be recharging.

Gary
