Linda & Dennis,

As you might guess, the answer is "depends". If you are planning to go to a
marina every night then you obviously don't need a dinghy. However if you
anchor out you will save a ton of money. Now you need a dinghy unless you
never want to get off the boat. The dinghy allows you the freedom to go
explore the towns, creeks and rivers. You will find that many towns in the
Chesapeake have dinghy docks which allow you access to all the town has to
offer. The dinghy will be a recreational device, the family car, station
wagon and truck. You can transport your folding bikes to shore. You can go to
dinner. You can go visit other boats. One of our favorite activities is to
fix a sundowner and cruise the harbor, looking at all the boats and houses.
Most importantly, if you don't have a dinghy you will have no choice but
always be the host for the gathering of cruisers in the harbor! I guess the
answer is yes, you could go without one but why would you?
