Verizon had cancelled their North America Choice plan on May 16th. We found
out that they have a new plan as of July 1st. It is called America's Choice
plus Canada (I may be a little off on the name). It is NOT on their web site yet
but I found out about it a few days ago and was asked to call back on July
1st.
The cost for the plan begins at $59.99 ($20 more than the lowest level
America Choice). It gets you:
450 Peak minutes
1000 nights and weekend minutes (not unlimited minutes)
1000 In calling minutes (not unlimited minutes)
If you go over on either of the 1000 allocated minutes, they will "take" from
your 450 minutes, if you still have some, then it is 45 cents a minute.
No toll charges or roaming charges when in Canada, although your phone may
show "roaming". If you still have an old North America Choice plan map, the
coverage area should be about the same.
More good news -- you do not have to sign a physical contract any longer to
change from your plan to the Canadian plan. As of last December, you can just
call them but you may have to give them an Internet signature to finalize. The
Canadian phone plan only requires a one year contract. You can change back to
your America's Choice plan whenever you want.
We also have an aircard and will NOT have coverage in Nova Scotia so we will
put it on seasonal service (deactivate it) at $5/month vs. $60 month for
service. We can reactivate it when we come back to the States. For the Loopers,
they may have aircard service in the Lakes, I didn't really look at that since we
are going to Nova Scotia. I believe they have some aircard service in the
large Canadian cities but not sure if it is included in your plan or not. Call
*611 for all the details. Check it out before you start using it.
