Joanne and I just got back from our weekend scout trip. This spring we plan to
take up the loop where we left it last year, in Apalachicola. We are going to
trailer our 22' cabin cruiser to
Apalchicola, then drive the truck and trailer to Steinhatchees Sea Hag Marina.
Yesterday we were given the names of a couple of people who might be willing
to drive us back to our boat.We will then cruise to Carrabelle to await a
weather window. Due to our small gas tank, we will make landfall at
Steinhatchee. If we don't have to wait long at Carrabelle then will proceed on
down the coast from Steinhatchee as far as time allows.
We were very impressed with the "Forgotten Coast" or the "Nature Coast" It
reminded me of the way all of Florida used to be.

Well, here I go putting my 2 cents in. The Big Bend route is
beautiful. The little villages are pleasant and welcoming. We enjoyed
the stops on the way and never said we were sorry we went that way.
Twice. We knew many who said they hated the long overnight trip or hop
if you will but with an 8 mile an hour boat we opted to take the big
bend. Our last trip was in 1999 and we had no trouble with depth but we
only draw 3.5 feet. Don't let anyone talk you out of it if you don't
have too deep of a draft. Swimming with the manatees was wonderful in
Crystal River! The way points are all listed in many books and charts
so give it a try. We were glad we did.
