Todd,
The list of of extra equippment for my boat does not identify the
make of my under-the-seat freezer, and the boat is too far away to check, but
I DO have an under-seat freezer listed only as 30 cc. I am more than leased
with it. I am sure it is NOT a Norcold. Having seen it on the Linssen demo
boat, I definitely wanted one and it was ordered (from the US) and installed
in Holland. I can set the temperature and if I am not mistaken, can even keep
it warm, though I have no need for that. I merely turn the temp all the way
down and it freezes nicely!
I made a folding box template (just 4 sides)
so when I am at home, I can package and pre-freeze food knowing it will fit
nicely in the freezer. My under counter fridge also has a small freezer top
that I use for convenience, but the fridge is small so I keep much in the
'real' freezer. I also have a standard ice-maker on board (under the lower
helm seat) and to me that is the #1 extra appliance! I NEED ICE! I keep a
large 5-day cooler on deck so that I have room for large, bulky things like
beer and orange juice, lettuce, carrots, etc. Every night, we empty the
contents of the ice maker into this chest, and by morning the ice maker is
full again, the beer stays cold!
Though I would love to have a full, house
type refrigerator on board, it is one of those compromises all boats have.
Elaine's (Skipper Bob's) suggestion re a trailer supply place like Camper
World is a good one. My little freezer works like a charm and I can even keep
ice cream in it when meat supply runs low! Yum-o!
