This year is the 175th anniversary of the Rideau, with many special
activities planned that loopers may wish to attend. May 22, in Smiths
Falls is the kickoff - ribbon cutting, presentations, cake, music. Then
June 30 in Ottawa, 'On the World Stage' - expected to be the
announcement of being named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And September
1 at Jones Falls is the Tribute to Labour. ( not so far from the
infamous 'Cranberry Bog' that claimed so many lives during
construction.) There are countless celebrations planned in communities
all up and down the canal, should be a good year to include the Rideau
in a cruise. Everything is free. (not lockage!)

A special website has been set up to track the events: www.rideau175.org
