Our mattress IS a composite with three
(I think) different densities of foam. The
bottom is quite firm with densities getting
softer at the "sleeping" layer.

Some likes innerspring, some likes foam. I'm in the
foam group. Master stateroom mattress on our 1995
Carver was spring type. I couldn't sleep on it at all
it was so miserably uncomfortable. We had a foam
mattress made locally using the "Swedish" type
memory foam. We were able to specify the firmness
we wanted. We actually got it a bit too soft, but it
is really comfortable.
