The question is a FX 7 an appropiate stern anchor for a Nordhavn 46. The
answer is NO.
The FX 7 is 4 lbs and replaces up to 9 lb steel anchor. Even the FX 16 (which
I use for a stern anchor on my 27 foot boat) only weighs 10 lbs, and is
appropiate for up to a 38 foot boat.
I would suggest that you buy a FX 37 which weighs 20 lbs and is appropiate for
your size boat. The FX 7 may be appropiate for your dinghy--but I would not
even use it as a "lunch hook". The FX 37 is appropiately sized so you can
use it as both a stern anchor or a secondary bow anchor. It is light enough
that it can be used as a kedge anchor.
The reason is that you never know when a wind will come up and if you are
using a stern anchor to maintain a position, a 400 lb holding strength anchor
will not suffice.
Good cruising.
