GL: USAA insurance

Well, I had "yacht" insurance and was dealing with their "yacht" agents
and did so for 10 plus years. I think the problem is that they only have
one underwriter, and as a consequence are not in a position to "shop"
your requirements around to various underwriters for the best deal for
your circumstances. They're very inflexible, as evidenced by the fact
that their coverage applies everywhere (no limitations as to areas,
dates, etc) and is based solely on the location where the boat is
normally docked. I specifically asked for coverage for a boat/yacht that
left Florida and the southern latitudes during the hurricane season
(June through November) and was told they don't write such a policy. Bye!!!

I don't have any complaints about USAA, generally, and have all of my
other insurance with them. Normally, their rates are on the low end and
their claim payments are exceptional (perhaps too easy, IMHO), but for
larger boats, I'd suggest looking elsewhere - don't just automatically
accept USAA as giving you the best deal.
